frequently asked questions

What makes Sweet Pea Imaging unique?

We have a registered sonographer!

Will my images be picture perfect?

At Sweet Pea Imaging, we always strive for perfection. Sadly, picture perfect is not always the case. Sometimes, baby is turned completely around i.e., towards your spine, and it may be difficult to get the baby to turn around. In a case like this, a complimentary rescan will be scheduled. Every baby scans differently depending on the gestational age, position, amount of fluid, placental location and mother’s body habitus.

We must remember, this is a baby in a belly with a mind and attitude of its own! However, I can promise you, we will make every effort to obtain the best images your baby allows.

Is the 3D/4D ultrasound covered by insurance?

Insurance does not cover the costs of 3D/4D elective ultrasounds. Since this is an elective procedure for entertainment purposes only and is not intended to be a replacement for your doctor ordered ultrasound, you will need to pay the cost of this ultrasound as an out-of-pocket expense.

Does this ultrasound take the place of my routine diagnostic ultrasound?

A Sweet Pea Imaging ultrasound is an elective ultrasound and is purely for the entertainment of the mother and family members. Women seeking an elective prenatal ultrasound must already be receiving active treatment from a physician for prenatal care and have undergone a medical, diagnostic ultrasound ordered by their physician. It should be made clear that a Sweet Pea Imaging ultrasound cannot be used as a substitute for a complete diagnostic ultrasound. Sweet Pea Imaging requires signed consent from the attending physician authorizing the customer to undergo an elective prenatal ultrasound. Click here to access the authorization form.

When is the optimum time during my pregnancy to come in for an ultrasound?

Between 27 to 34 weeks for the 4D session. We can examine more detail after about 27 weeks, however you may come as early as 14 weeks.

Is it risky to get a 2D/3D/4D ultrasound?

Performing a 2D/3D/4D ultrasound during pregnancy does not pose any risks for the mother or baby. Prenatal ultrasound technology is based on sounds and has been in the market for more than 40 years. There haven’t been any complications associated with this test during this time.

Are you able to tell the sex of the baby?

Yes, in most cases we can provide an indication of the sex of the baby. We can't, however, guarantee that the baby will cooperate during your session. Certain factors such as body tissue content, developmental stage and fetal position all affect the ability to determine sex.

What factors influence that I get a good picture?

• Weeks of Pregnancy;

• Mother’s weight;

• Amount of amniotic fluid;

• Weight, position and movements of the baby;

• Thickness of the mother’s skin.
